Director's Meeting July 11, 2007
Present: Dennis McMullen-President, Brian Ruddick-Vice President, Al & Linda Ursacki-Directors
Topics Discussed:
1) How to Increase Membership-several ideas were discussed including more advertising, more word of mouth, having a bring a guest night ,and possibly change our meeting day and time. I have spoken to the meeting hall folks and there are some possible weekday options open. It was decided by executive that we ask members for their input at the next meeting. Would it be more attractive in drawing in new members?
2) Try to fill Executive positions and other jobs-The main job still not filled is Secretary and there is one Directors spot open. It would be nice to have the Finds of the Month taken care of as well! It seems like there are too many people doing too many jobs and there are a lot of members who are doing too little!
3) Challenge Contests for next year: The current challenge contests were discussed and directors were asked if we should keep the current contests or if any new contests could be considered? The Directors will think it over and discuss at a later Directors meeting.
4) Update Web Site: Dennis will correct spelling mistakes and generally updating the website by increasing it to a larger site with more capabilities which will cost the club about fifty dollars a year. One year has already been paid after the club received a donation. The club will hope to have the current newsletter on the website soon so members can download it and this will save the club on printing and mailing costs. A few will still be available at meetings or members not having computers will be phoned for important dates and outings etc.
5) Digital Camera Draw: Everyone agreed that we should continue this draw for next year but it was decided that we go back to two dollars a ticket instead of one. The club has made more money each time the tickets sold for two dollars. We would print 500 tickets at 2 dollars each. The members should be required to sell one book of tickets each. The tickets should be printed and ready at the start of the new year by the Jan. meeting so that the members will have more time to sell them. Hopefully most of the tickets will be sold by the time the Southern Ontario Hunt rolls around. At the hunt silver rounds or something else could be sold.
6) Sept. Beach Hunt/meeting: A general discussion on planning the day's activities. What hunts to have? Prize situation? It was decided that we have enough prizes but silver will have to be purchased.
Lundy's Lane Museum Tour July 26/07
The Lundy's Lane Museum tour turnout by club members was very disappointing indeed with only four members in attendance.
Deborah Legge was our tour guide who answered questions when asked by members. It was essentially a self guided tour but the displays were very interesting and there seemed to be quite a few exhibits on the war of 1812 ,uniforms in surprisingly good condition, military buttons and badges as well and other exhibits from times past. I would certainly recommend a visit to the museum for members who have not visited it recently or at all.
